Numerous trees have been uprooted, power lines have been knocked down, and some buildings have sustained damage. Some residents have reported roof and structural damages to their homes. COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A strong line of severe storms moved through Mid-Missouri early this afternoon causing widespread issues across the region. Winds up to 60 MPH have been observed with many of these storms causing downed trees which has led to power outages and damages to some homes.
According to the City of Columbia, they have seen up to 2,300 customers with power outages at last check at 4:10. Boone Electric Cooperative is reporting just under 1,000 power outages at last check at the same time. Many trees have fallen causing minor traffic inconveniences across downtown Columbia as the University of Missouri crews and the City of Columbia crews work to remove any road blocks.
A downed tree on a home in Columbia off of Park Ave. has left a home uninhabitable for the time being. The home owner expected guests as the property is used for Air BnB rentals this weekend but has since had to cancel the stay until the tree can be removed and the building can be repaired.
