The hit Netflix series, Ozark, has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The ten-episode season is expected to wrap up the Byrde family’s story. The show revolves around a financial planner, Marty Byrde, who is forced to relocate his family to the Ozarks after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong. As they struggle to keep their operations running, dark secrets and dangerous alliances emerge. Season five will likely delve deeper into the power struggles between various criminal organizations and test Marty’s ability to stay one step ahead. Fans eagerly await the final chapter of this thrilling and suspenseful series..
With the rise of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the market for crime dramas is at an all-time high. And with those shows now over, people are hungry for similar series. Netflix’s popular crime drama, Ozark, just about helps fill that hole.
Ozark follows the story of the Byrde family. They run a money-laundering scheme in the Lake of the Ozarks region in Missouri. Making your children part of your criminal scheme isn’t a popular decision, but Marty Byrde decides to anyway. Will he and his family somehow make it out unscathed?
After the Season 4 finale in 2022, all eyes are on Ozark: Season 5. Here’s all you need to know about it.
When Is Ozark: Season 5 Being Released?
Sadly, Ozark: Season 5 will not be a thing. The franchise ended with Season 4 Part 2. Multiple people within Ozark’s production team and staff have stated that the show truly ends with Season 4. If that’s not enough to convince you, Netflix even released a touching farewell video from the staff.
Will The Cast Return For Ozark: Season 5?
Considering that the series has concluded, the cast will not be returning for Ozark: Season 5. Worry not though, their stellar performances in Ozark have earned most of them roles in other upcoming shows. Here are their future roles, in case you loved them in Ozark and want to see more of them.
Jason Bateman (Marty Byrde) will be playing roles in the upcoming shows Carry On, Clue, and Black Rabbit.
Laura Linney (Wendy Byrde) will have roles in the films The Miracle Club, Suncoast, and Wildcat.
Julia Garner (Ruth Langmore) also has some acting jobs lined up. She will appear in The Royal Hotel and Apartment 7A.
Felix Solis (Omar Navarro), Ozark’s main antagonist, will be appearing in City On Fire and The Patrolman.
As for Lisa Emery (Darlene Snell), the secondary antagonist, she will be showing up in a short film called Little Orange Flags.
What Could Ozark: Season 5 Be About?
Although it’s been confirmed that Ozark won’t be coming back, it’s still fun to imagine what could have been. Jason Bateman, the actor who played Marty Byrde, and Chris Mundy, Ozark’s showrunner, both gave their opinions in an interview.
Here’s what Jason Bateman had to say about the potential future of the Byrde family: “I would bet you that they’ll go up to Chicago and they’ll test this theory of Wendy’s, which is, Have we acquired enough political capital to put into play some things that will help folks? Acquiring that capital was messy, but will the ends justify the means? My assumption is that, while they’re smarter now than when we first met them, I still feel like their hubris and arrogance will continue to trip them up. I think humility would probably guide them towards some better decisions, but I don’t think they’re there yet, unfortunately.”
Chris Mundy had a different, simpler take on things: “I think they’ve gone on. They got everything they think they wanted. But I think they’re dragging around a curse, to be honest.”
The big question is whether or not the Byrde family decides to continue their life of crime. If they decide to continue, then the show goes on as normal. The Byrdes will continue avoiding the law and trying to neutralize those who would expose them. The show could see Charlotte and Jonah slowly taking bigger roles in the money-laundering business.
If they decide to turn a new leaf, they’ll have to deal with the consequences of their past actions. It’ll be a long road to redemption. The Byrdes may be criminals, but they aren’t necessarily evil. You can definitely see the good inside each of them. They simply kept digging themselves into a deeper and deeper hole. Once they finally decide to start climbing out of the hole, they’ll be pretty decent members of society. At least if they keep at it.
Whichever they pick, it seems that both paths lead to a rough future for them at the very least. Especially since the end of Ozark meant they had another death at their hands.
