Anthony Joshua has admitted that ‘he didn’t see it coming’ when Dillian Whyte rocked him in their first clash.

The pair initially met in the professional ranks in 2015 when both men were unbeaten young fighters.

In the second round of the fight, With Joshua unloading on his opponent, Whyte countered with his signature left hook and it left AJ on unstable legs.

Reacting to this moment in the fight, Joshua told DAZN Boxing: “As I’ve gone to throw a right hand, you’re supposed to sit back on your back foot and rotate to get your leverage.

“What I did, I lent over my front hand, which puts me in the firing line and boom, left hook hits me.

“I didn’t see it coming because I wasn’t interested in what’s coming back.

“I’m just interested in attacking Dillian and it was a peach of a punch and it shook me down to my boots.”

Fortunately for Joshua, he recovered well and went on to win the fight by knockout in the seventh round after delivering a thunderous uppercut.

And he will be hoping for a similar result on August 12 when both men go toe-to-toe once again in a rematch at the O2 Arena in London.

And Joshua is confident of getting the job done, as he said at the pre-fight press conference: “I don’t really look at Dillian as a rival, just another body really,” Joshua said.

“They’ve got a lot of hate for me. A lot of people hate on me.

“With Dillian, I don’t really look at him as a rival. I just watch myself.”
