“The Craft” sequel is reminding audiences to harness the power within themselves, much like the original film did in 1996. The new movie follows a group of high school girls who discover their own magical abilities and must learn to navigate the complexities of teenage life. With themes of empowerment, friendship, and embracing one’s true self, the film serves as a reminder to be resilient and unwavering in the face of challenges. As the characters harness their powers, they teach viewers the importance of staying light-hearted while also standing strong, just like the famous slumber party game, “Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board.”.
The official trailer for The Craft: Legacy has just been released, and our 90s witchy vibes are officially activated.
For a while no one knew if this was going to be a sequel or a remake, but now that Fairuza Balka’s Nancy has been teased in the trailer, and the rather obvious title, it is definitely a sequel. This sequel, though it also kind of just looks like a reboot since the premise is pretty much the same, is produced by Blumhouse and Red Wagon Entertainment.
While the original didn’t perform well with the critics, it has become something of a cult classic, and paved the way for other witchy shows, like the TV show Charmed. To be honest, from the trailer alone, this sequel is missing the edge of the first, and looks like something the CW cooked up.
Written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, the film stars Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, Nicholas Galitzine, with Michelle Monaghan and David Duchovny (yes Mulder is in this).
The Craft: Legacy will be available widely on PVOD this Halloween for a 48-hour rental period at a US$19.99, and for premium digital purchase at US$24.99. An international theatrical release is still happening in several territories, and we should get the details in weeks to come.
The Craft: Legacy will be released October 28, 2020.
