Syracuse, N.Y. — Boeheim’s Army faces Team Gibson in the first round of The Basketball Tournament at 7 p.m. Monday at Upstate Medical University Arena at The OnCenter War Memorial.

It got a little ugly during the Elam Ending, but Boeheim’s Army still came away with a 99-83 win over Team Gibson.
Dwight Buycks Jr. spun down the lane and banked in the game-winner after Boeheim’s Army had struggled to score during the Elam Ending portion of the game.
Next up: a rematch with The Nerd Team on Wednesday night.

Elam Ending
We’ve reached the Elam Ending point of the game here at the War Memorial with Boeheim’s Army holding a 90-66 lead over Team Gibson.
After a foul with 3:52 left created a deadball, play was stopped and now a target score of 98 has been set.
This is either going to be a Boeheim’s Army win or the most amazing comeback in TBT history.

Boeheim’s Army will look to close out an easy win here as it leads Team Gibson 75-49 at the end of three quarters.
Andrew White leads Boeheim’s Army with 13 points, while Rakeem Christmas has 11 points.
Team Gibson went 7-for-23 (30 percent) from the field in the third quarter. For the game, Team Gibson is making 37% of its shots.
They are playing 9-minute quarters in the TBT and the game will go to the Elam Ending at the first deadball under the 4-minute mark. So essentially, there are five minutes until the Elam Ending, at which point the leading team will need to score eight points to gain the win.

Grant Riller leads Boeheim’s Army with 12 points, but Rakeem Christmas has flexed his muscles on the last two possessions.
Christmas powered his way to a shot off the glass while drawing a foul. He then completed the And-1 for a 61-38 lead. On the very next play, Christmas got out on the break and scored a layup despite a foul. He missed the ensuing free throw, but still has nine points.
Halftime
After trailing 13-2 to start the game, Boeheim’s Army is leading Team Gibson 48-31 at halftime here at the War Memorial.
Boeheim’s Army out-scored Team Gibson 30 to 13 in the second quarter.
Former Marquette guard Dwight Buycks Jr. leads Boeheim’s Army with nine points, while former SU forward Andrew White has eight points. Jamil Wilson, another former Marquette standout, has five points and a team-high five rebounds.
Boeheim’s Army used a 12-0 run early in the second quarter to whisk past Team Gibson. Team Gibson made just 38% of its shots in the second quarter and connected on just one 3-pointer.
3:51 left in 2nd quarter
Boeheim’s Army has continued its hot play, out-scoring Team Gibson 18 to 8 thus far in the second quarter to take a 36-26 lead.
Andrew White gave Boeheim’s Army its first lead of the game with 5:28 left in the quarter when he buried a 3-pointer for a 23-23 lead. Boeheim’s Army scored 12 straight points for a 32-22 lead.
White currently leads Boeheim’s Army with 8 points.
End 1st quarter
Boeheim’s Army trailed Team Gibson 13-2 early, but rallied to the game at 18-apiece to end the first quarter.
Boeheim’s Army got a spark from subs Jimmy Boeheim and Rakeem Christmas and then turned up the defensive pressure to out-score Team Gibson 16-5 over the last five minutes of the quarter.
Chris McCullough tied the game on a baseline runner with 5 seconds left in the quarter. DeAndre Kane hit a key 3-pointer during the rally.
4:00 left in 1st quarter
Boeheim’s Army got off to a sluggish start in its game against Team Gibson in the opening round of The Basketball Tournament on Monday.
Team Gibson took advantage of several early miscues by Boeheim’s Army to take a 13-2 lead. Boeheim’s Army coach Ryan Blackwell called timeout after his team fell behind 10-2. Boeheim’s Army still struggled until Rakeem Christmas and Jimmy Boeheim checked into the game.
Boeheim snapped Team Gibson’s 11-0 run with a baseline jumper. Boeheim’s Army then got two breakaway buckets off steals to narrow the margin to 13-8 with 4:00 left in the first quarter.
Boeheim’s Army will be without several players who had originally agreed to participate in this year’s TBT. On Monday, Tyus Battle confirmed that contract obligations with his pro team in China would prevent him from playing.
What’s ahead
The winner of the Boeheim’s Army-Team Gibson game will face The Nerd Team in the tournament’s second round on Wednesday.
Earlier Monday, The Nerd Team blew a 16-point lead, trailed at the start of the Elam Ending and then came back for a 54-49 win over Happy Valley. The Nerds jumped out to a 17-1 lead. But Happy Valley clawed back and led 46-44 when the game went under the 4-minute mark.
Former Notre Dame guard Prentiss Hubb scored nine of The Nerd Team’s 10 points during the Elam Ending, including the game-winning bucket.
Pregame
The first day of action in the TBT’s Syracuse Regional got off to a thrilling start as the defending TBT champions Blue Collar U staged a miracle comeback to stun Big 5.
Big 5 led 70-60 at the start of the Elam Ending, which sets a target score (eight points more than the team that’s ahead) after the first deadball under the 4-minute mark. Big 5 extended its lead to 72-60, putting it within six points of the target score of 78.
Blue Collar U then proceeded to rally. But even as the team made up mainly of former University at Buffalo players tied the game at 76, the Big 5 still had a chance to win the game. But a missed shot gave the ball to Blue Collar U, which got the winning basket from former Bull Nick Perkins.
