The critically acclaimed films “Bombshell,” “The Irishman,” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” have all received four nominations each at this year’s British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs). “Bombshell,” a drama based on the real-life sexual harassment scandal at Fox News, has been recognized in categories such as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Martin Scorsese’s gangster epic “The Irishman” also scored nominations for Best Director and Best Film. Quentin Tarantino’s nostalgic love letter to Hollywood, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” secured nominations in key categories including Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay..
There were upsets galore at the 26th Screen Actors Guild Nominations, and the Oscar race feels plenty shook up at this point. The big headline is three films tying for 4 nominations: Bombshell, which came back strong from its Golden Globes performance with nominations for Ensemble, Lead Actress for Charlize Theron, and 2 supporting nominations for Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie.
The Irishman missed again for Robert De Niro in Lead Actor, but has both Joe Pesci and Al Pacino in for Supporting Actor, and also landed a Stunt Ensemble and Best Ensemble nominations. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood also looks strong, scoring nominations for Ensemble, Stunts, Lead Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt for Supporting Actor.
A few big misses are Eddie Murphy for Dolemite is My Name, Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh for Little Women, Awkwafina for The Farewell, and in the Ensemble category, no Marriage Story, or Dolemite.
