Fernando Alonso chose not to attend the Wimbledon gentlemen’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz which saw the young Spanish player defeat 23-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic for his first ever Wimbledon title. Alonso was given the opportunity to attend the event alongside other famous drivers such as Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, George Russell, and Zhou G uanyu , but did not go to the game.

During a press conference ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix Alonso said that he wasn’t interested in the match and that one week in Silverstone was enough. Many expected the Spanish F1 legend to support one of the up and coming sporting icons from his country.
On being asked of his absence from the Wimbledon 2023 final, Alonso said, “It was enough one week in Silverstone already.” However even though he didn’t attend the game, the two-time F1 champion was still proud of Alcaraz’s achievement and privately congratulated him after his victory. The tennis player, in an interview with MARCA, said, “It’s really amazing. I was also congratulated by Fernando Alonso, who is someone I admire.”
Alonso hopes for better performances
Following a disappointing show in Silverstone and Austria, Alonso will hope his team performs better at the Hungaroring track due to its similarities to other tracks the Aston Martin has performed. The F1 legend said that it was clear the AMR23 is not well equipped to handle sharp turns and long straights.
Alonso also reiterated that even though competitors will be upgrading cars, he has faith and hope that his team will also improve their performances as he chases his 33rd victory of the season.
