The popular modding platform, FiveM, has announced that it will be removing real-world cars from its Grand Theft Auto Roleplay (GTA RP) servers. This decision comes in response to a cease and desist letter from Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA V. FiveM has stated that the removal of real-world cars will not affect the overall gameplay experience and that users will still be able to enjoy the modded servers. Additionally, the platform has promised to provide regular updates and improvements for the servers to ensure a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience for players..
FiveM are removing real-world cars from GTA RP now they are part of Rockstar Games. Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM for GTA Online, have released a lengthy statement sharing policy updates for the platform.
Each month, Cfx.re release a “Community Pulse” that updates players on what’s going on with FiveM. Last month’s edition was the first one since Rockstar Games purchased the group in August for an undisclosed fee. September’s statement talked about what Rockstar Games have helped them with so far and what to expect in the future.
Many questions have been raised by the GTA Online and GTA RP community on how this will impact servers using FiveM and even GTA Online and GTA 6.
Removal of real world cars and companies
To comply with copyright laws, Cfx.re have issued a new Platform License Agreement that states creators cannot use real-world car models and badges. They explain that “de-badging” cars is good but actual real world car models also need to be removed.
Cfx.re say “We cannot allow custom assets or mods that infringe third-party intellectual property (IP). Real-world brands, unique vehicle designs, and 3D software models are generally protectable under trademark or copyright. If you use a real-world car model pulled from another game without permission, that could result in claims against your server by both the car company (brand, logo, car design) or the game developer (3D model).”
The team go onto encourage the community to be as creative as possible and design their very own unique vehicles and brands from scratch. This will help servers stand out from one another.
This is a very big talking point as some GTA RP players have paid real money to use real world cars in servers they play on. Now those will be taken away and it will be up to the server to decide how to handle compensation. not FiveM nor Rockstar.
Importing of maps from GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption
Cfx.re have made it clear that you cannot import maps from other games into FiveM or RedM. We’ve seen fans bring the western world of Red Dead Redemption, Las Venturas and GTA IV’s Liberty City into GTA Online RP. However, the group behind the platform say “We do not support combining IP or assets from other games into FiveM and RedM, regardless of whether developed by Rockstar or someone else.”
What’s been going on since Rockstar took them over?
According to Cfx.re, the “developers have been hard at work discussing, documenting and improving our processes for development tasks, both for our web services as well as our game clients.” They’re still in the process of concluding their work on these changes so not much can be shared at this time.
The main focus since Rockstar’s acquisition has been on increased stability of the platform. The uptime is now at 99.9% so users will experience far less issues with play.
Another addition is that RedM’s game files downloader has been moved to the same backend as FiveM meaning download speeds will be faster. This will be coming soon.
