Wide receiver Keon Coleman, who spent two years with the Spartans before transferring to join the Seminoles in the offseason, had a monster debut with a new program.
Coleman led the team with nine catches for 122 yards and a career-high three touchdowns as No. 8 Florida State won 45-24 vs. No. 5 LSU on Sunday night. He had a 40-yard touchdown catch from Jordan Travis midway through the first quarter to open the scoring and followed with scores from 21 and seven yards out.
Coleman is a former four-star recruit who signed with Michigan State coach Mel Tucker’s first recruiting class. He had seven catches for 50 yards as a true freshman before being the team’s leading receiver last season with 58 grabs for 798 yards and seven touchdowns.
With star receiver Jayden Reed leaving for the NFL, Coleman was expected to take over this fall but he jumped in the portal after spring practice before transferring to Florida State.
Michigan State opened the season with a 31-7 win against Central Michigan on Friday night. Redshirt freshman Jaron Glover led the team with three catches for 75 yards, Christian Fitzpatrick had a 72-yard catch and run and Tyrell Henry hauled in a one-handed touchdown for his first career reception.
