A Level 3 evacuation has been issued to residents outside Harrisburg, Oregon, due to a rapidly spreading wildfire. This evacuation order calls for immediate evacuation as the fire, named the Cloverdale Fire, threatens nearby areas. The fire was initially reported on Monday morning and has quickly grown to cover an estimated 100 acres. Firefighters are currently battling the blaze, but strong winds and dry conditions are making containment efforts challenging. Residents in the affected areas are advised to follow the evacuation orders and stay updated through local authorities for the latest information and instructions..
Multiple evacuation orders were issued Friday for a 200 acre brush fire burning on Priceboro Drive outside of Harrisburg.
The Priceboro Fire, which is burning in a field 1 mile north of Mount Tom, has brought level 3 (go now) evacuations for all residents of Mount Tom. A level 2 (be prepared to go) has been issued for all residents on Coleman Road east of Interstate 5 by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire was first reported just before 3:15 p.m. At least 60 homes have been evacuated, according to the sheriff’s office. The cause is currently unknown.
An emergency shelter for residents and their animals has been set up at the Linn County Fairgrounds at 3700 Knox Butte Road in Albany, according to the sheriff’s office. Livestock stables are available.
Two task forces were mobilized by the Oregon State Fire Marshal and sent to Linn County to help with the growing fire. Harrisburg Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Forestry are in unified command of the efforts, according to an update from the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
“The fire is growing quickly, and OSFM has additional resources standing by to bolster additional response as needed,” the update added.
Both task forces are being sent through Immediate Response, which is used by the Oregon State Fire Marshal to send additional firefighters and equipment to fires. This is the third immediate response mobilization that has been activated in a week.
Sheriff’s deputies were going door-to-door to notify those who live in the area of the alert, but other citizens are asked to avoid the area to allow crews to fight the fire.
While the smoke is visible from Interstate 5, there are no current highway closures. However, those in the area can check updated road information at the Oregon Department of Transportation website. Those with questions about evacuation levels, shelters or who need assistance can call 541-812-9211.
Weather conditions are forecasted to stay hot and dry throughout the weekend, alongside some lightning in parts of the state. The Oregon State Fire Marshal added that conditions mean extra fire precautions should be taken to avoid sparking additional wildfires.
