The highly anticipated prologue of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Tenet is likely to be released in IMAX theaters in December. The prologue, which showcases mind-bending action sequences, was originally attached to IMAX screenings of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, Warner Bros. decided to delay the release of Tenet. With theaters cautiously reopening, the studio is now planning to release the prologue to further build anticipation for the film’s eventual release. Fans and cinephiles can expect an immersive experience with stunning visuals and a glimpse into Nolan’s mysterious world..
According to Trailer Track, the prologue for Tenet has received a rating from the MPA (Motion Picture Association). The MPA has given the prologue a PG-13 rating for violence and intense action. Which begs the question: When do we get to see it? Since his movie The Dark Knight, Nolan has released prologues or extended footage in IMAX months before the movie’s release in theatres. Most of these releases are also done in December, right before big movie releases.
The Dark Knight’s first 6 minutes was shown before Will Smith’s I Am Legend, the opening airplane scene in The Dark Knight Rises played before the IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and lastly, Dunkirk’s prologue came before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Like Tenet, all these films had July release dates. Given the fact that the man is so detailed when it comes to his film-making, it makes perfect sense that his marketing campaigns would follow a particular trajectory as well.
So it looks like we can expect to see the prologue for Tenet in December, most likely before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, since it is the biggest movie release we have for December. It is not confirmed if the prologue for Tenet will be shown solely in IMAX, but based on history, it is a likely thing.
Tenet will hit theatres July 17, 2020.
