The Joker movie is dominating the awards season by receiving 11 nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards. The film has been recognized in major categories such as Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Joker’s success came as a surprise to many, especially considering its darker tone and comic book origins. Leading man Joaquin Phoenix has garnered praise for his portrayal of the troubled character, receiving accolades for Best Actor at various other awards shows. The film’s multiple nominations further solidify its impact and solid reception in the industry..
The Oscar nominations are out, and it was a strong showing for Warner Brothers and Todd Phillips’ Joker, which leads the pack with 11 nominations, showing up for Picture, Director, Actor, Adapted Screenplay, and 7 technical nominations.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 1917, and The Irishman all tie for second place with 10 nominations each, so strong showings for each film there as well.
A few surprise inclusions are both Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins for The Two Popes and Kathy Bates for Supporting Actress in Richard Jewell.
For the exclusions, no Taron Egerton for Best Actor (Rocketman only received one nomination), Jennifer Lopez in Supporting Actress for Hustlers, and Parasite, despite 6 nominations, did not land an acting nomination, despite the Ensemble nomination at the Screen Actors Guild. We’ll have more to follow this week.
