Actress Julia Fox recently shared her experience of auditioning for Madonna’s movie during an interview. Fox, known for her role in the film “Uncut Gems,” described the audition as “surreal” and said that she had to sign an NDA before even reading the script. She also mentioned being nervous and intimidated by Madonna herself, but felt inspired by the singer’s dedication and vision. Although Fox didn’t reveal if she got the role, she expressed her admiration for Madonna’s work ethic and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to audition..
Julia Fox hoped to appear in Madonna’s highly-anticipated biopic, which is currently on pause.
The Uncut Gems actress, 33, was a guest on Watch What Happens Live Sunday and answered a viewer’s question about hanging out with 65-year-old Queen of Pop.
Fox, who recently released the new memoir Down the Drain, said she and the “Like a Prayer” singer had dinner years ago at Carbone in New York City along with “some really fabulous gays.” After that, she continued, “we kind of kept in touch.”
When Madonna started work on a biopic about her life, Fox said she “really wanted to play” the icon’s longtime friend Debi Mazar, 59, who starred in the movie Goodfellas as well as on the TV series Younger.
“I went to her house and read for her and it was all very surreal,” Fox revealed about Madonna.
Last year, Entertainment Weekly reported that Fox was in talks to play Mazar, who reacted to the news with delight.
“I think she is gorgeous, smart and a very talented actress,” Mazar wrote about Fox in an Instagram caption accompanying vintage photos of her as well as Madonna.
“Funny enough, she reminds me more of Madonna when we were young then of myself,” continued Mazar. “I’d obviously be flattered. I wish the best to all the gals who audition. If you need dance moves or acting coaching give me a ring.”
Ozark Emmy winner Julia Garner was reportedly cast to play Madonna in the biopic.

In January, Variety cited multiple sources who said the movie, which was co-written, produced and to be directed by Madonna herself was not moving forward in development at Universal Pictures.
The outlet reported that Madonna still intends to make the movie, but wanted to focus instead on her Celebration world tour, which kicked off Saturday in London to rave reviews.
In 2020, when the biopic was first confirmed, Madonna said in a statement, “I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world.”
“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me,” she continued.
“It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision,” she added.
