One of the last road repair projects from the 2018 Father’s Day Flood in Michigan is nearing completion. Massie Road, which was undermined and washed out during the flood, has finally been repaved after more than five years. The $4.2 million project was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Administration, but reimbursement money has been slow in coming. The project included installing enlarged drainage ditches and culverts to prevent future damage. The Houghton County Road Commission has often had to wait up to a year for reimbursement, straining their operating budget. Construction is still ongoing on a section of Massie Road east of the highway.
