Originally set for a theatrical debut in May 2020, the psychological thriller was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The star-studded cast, including Adams, Julianne Moore, and Gary Oldman, adds to the excitement surrounding this upcoming release..
According to Deadline, Netflix is in negotiations to acquire Joe Wright’s thriller The Woman in the Window.
Considering how volatile the cinema situation is at the moment, this is no surprise. The film was initially meant to be released October 4, 2019 but was delayed to May 15, 2020. Due to the coronavirus, it was taken off the calendar and there wasn’t any news about when it might be released.
It seems that Disney has decided to follow Paramount’s footsteps and offer the film to Netflix in the hopes of making some quick cash. Paramount did this with their film The Lovebirds, which proved to be the right decision. Wright thriller wouldn’t mesh well with the Disney Plus platform, or even Hulu, and releasing it in cinemas at this time would definitely mean a loss.
The Woman in the Window is a film adaptation of the very popular thriller by A.J. Finn, starring Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore, Anthony Mackie and Jennifer Jason Leigh. With such a stacked cast, and a narrative that is described as Rear Window meets Gone Girl, this will be quite the buy for Netflix and will certainly perform well on the platform.
Netflix has yet to announce the new release date for the film, but once the deal is finalised, they will possibly re-cut the trailer and include the new date then.
