SALINE, Mich. (FOX 2) – A male suspect was arrested following an active shooter situation in Saline that involved multiple scenes in the city.
Police confirmed two people suffered injuries from the shooting, including a 40-year-old female who was listed in critical condition.
According to Police Chief Marlene Radzik who spoke after the suspect was taken into custody, he’s 58 years old from Lenawee County and is an ex-boyfriend of the victim. He targeted the female at the UAW Hall, across from an assisted living center on Woodland Drive. A male acquaintance who was with the victim was also shot.
He’s listed in stable condition.
The chief described a “domestic relationship” between the suspect and victim who was walking to her car for a smoke break when the shooter began firing. Police got the call when the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect was allegedly taken into custody after a head-on crash following a pursuit by police.
A Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle shortly after and initiated a pursuit.
The suspect was arrested after a police chase that ended with a head-on crash on Willis Road near Ann Arbor-Saline Road. When he crashed, the deputy got out of their cruiser and ordered the suspect to exit the vehicle.
When the suspect failed to follow commands, he was tased. Radzik said the local police department got assisted from Michigan State Police, the FBI, and the Washtenaw County sheriff’s office.
A weapon was also recovered at the crash scene.

“This is a big one for our community,” she said in an interview.
Prior to the shooting, police were at Saline High School for active shooter training when they got reports of the shooting and “we had a lot of cooperation very quickly.”
