Online Streaming Options for The Flash – Update

With a stacked cast and an ambitious multiverse premise that will seemingly bring together every DC cinematic universe under a new banner by James Gunn and Peter Safran, The Flash could be the film that finally sets DC’s dreams of being as critically and commercially successful as Marvel on the right path. Early reviews, as well as the return of Michael Keaton to the role of Batman, could prove to be more than enough to offset any possible superhero fatigue audiences might be feeling, but where can you watch The Flash online?

The Flash was slated to come out more than a year ago. However, after a series of setbacks, including COVID-19, post production challenges, and Ezra Miller controversies, the movie’s release was pushed back to June 16th, 2023. That’s when everyone worldwide will have a chance to see if not only can the film live up to a staggering amount of hype, but if DC and Warner Bros-Discovery made the right decision in supporting Miller across their assorted abuse allegations.

As mentioned, The Flash will be released to theaters worldwide on June 16th. Early reviews suggest the movie isn’t perfect, but overall indicate a movie that will likely to satisfy comic book and DC fans in particular. While we know when the film will be in theaters, it’s fair to wonder as well when you might be able to see the movie on streaming, VOD, or even physical media.

We’ve got some answers on where to watch The Flash online. You can expect to be able to rent or buy the movie digitally around September. Discovery-Warner and DC have not given specifics yet, but the current word is that the movie will be going to Max in the US this fall. If you want to wait for the film to come to Max in fall 2023, the cost will be whichever Max plan you choose (starting at $9.99 monthly). Max isn’t available in the UK, so you may have to go down the VOD route to watch The Flash online.

Releases for physical and VOD rent/buy options from Amazon/iTunes/etc are slated to come out around the same time. Prices on this rental or purchase are up to speculation, but they are more likely than not going to be in the same price range you’d expect for a massive comic book blockbuster release.

 

About The Flash

It’s hard to believe The Flash in its current form was first announced all the way back in 2019. After much speculation on a possible plot, with different writers and directors being attached to the project at different points, the film became a bookend for Zack Synder’s era of DC universe moviemaking. Miller is likely to continue on as Barry Allen and The Flash, and this film, despite featuring a mass of different characters from different worlds and universes, reflects that. After a disastrous attempt at using his abilities to time-travel and prevent the death of his mother, Barry Allen soon finds himself in a world in which meta-humans like Superman never existed.

Obviously, this loss makes things a little frightening when Man of Steel’s version of General Zod (Michael Shannon) shows up to terraform Earth. Barry must now team with a younger version of himself to seek out whatever help they can to stop Zod from destroying everything. Good thing they come across a Batman (arguably the definitive cinematic Batman in Michael Keaton) different from the one (Ben Affleck reprising the role one last time) Barry has known. They eventually learn of a Kryptonian girl who may be able to fill in the gap left in a world without a Superman.

All this amounts to a lot of story and characters, so it makes sense that The Flash has a running time of 2 hours and 35 minutes. If you’ve been waiting four years for this film, make sure you’ve gone to the bathroom before the movie starts.
