On Thursday night, the Phoenix area experienced a sudden weather change as blowing dust and thunderstorms made their way into the region. The gusty winds caused limited visibility and disrupted road conditions, leading to numerous accidents. The thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall and lightning strikes, prompting warnings from the National Weather Service. Parts of the area were affected by power outages as a result of the storms. Residents were advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the severe weather conditions..
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -Weather changes are on the way for Arizona, starting Thursday. Because of that, Arizona’s Family First Alert Weather team is declaring Thursday night and Friday First Alert Weather Days.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue tonight, dependent upon some outflows from stronger storms south and east of the Valley. A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for parts of the far south and southeastern corners of the Valley from 4-9 p.m. Because of the amount of particulate matter possibly in the air tonight, a High Pollution Advisory has been issued for Maricopa and Pinal counties. Look for muggy conditions at tonight’s home opener for ASU football, with periods of gusty winds and a slight chance for spotty showers.
Models are showing a chance of storms Friday that could cause local flooding of streets and washes, so a Flood Watch has been put in place 6 p.m. tonight through Friday night. We have declared a First Alert for the possibility of these storms, although many areas of the Valley may receive no rain at all. These same forecast predictions put the heaviest rainfall, possibly an inch or more, in Western Arizona through Friday night.
Our temperatures have fallen below dangerous heat conditions and may fall below the daily average Friday due to scattered showers, and continue through Saturday morning. The Labor Day weekend looks dry and cooler with highs near the century mark. Warmer temperatures by mid-week next week.
