If his information if correct, the Funko movie will mark the first ever occasion that Marvel and DC characters have shared the screen, which would be a momentous occasion for fans.
So far, Richtman has named two Marvel characters in the forms of Deadpool and Baby Groot, who he claims will appear alongside Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman, who are both owned by DC. He also listed a number of characters from other franchises who are set to appear, including Darth Vader, Hellboy, and the Care Bears.
Although Marvel is owned by Disney (and the film rights to Deadpool are owned by Fox, who have almost finished selling their entertainment assets to Disney), Warner Bros. were able to obtain the rights from the House of Mouse to use Star Wars characters in The Lego Movie, and have also published a series of Lego Marvel video games, so it would make sense for Marvel characters to appear in the Funko movie. DC, on the other hand, is a subsidiary of Warner Bros., so it won’t be an issue for DC heroes to appear.
After the huge critical and financial success of The Lego Movie, it seems hardly surprising that Warner Bros. would want to adapt another toy franchise for the big screen, and with Funko Pops! being as popular as they are, they seemed like an obvious choice.
