Numerous showers and storms continue to develop and move across Iowa on Friday. Parts of central Iowa now have a slight risk for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas at slight risk — a two on the NWS’s five-point scale that ranges from marginal to high risk — are in an arc roughly from Fort Dodge to Des Moines to Ottumwa, with marginal risk surrounding that area and spanning wider through southeast Iowa.
There is a possibility for a few weak tornadoes and hail between about noon and 8 p.m.
Depending on how much heating and moisture returns, some of these could turn strong to severe with the potential for some hail and possibly a tornado. Any tornadic activity that occurs today will be short-lived and generally weak in nature due to fairly weak amounts of shear in place.
