Principal photography for Marvel’s highly anticipated film, The Eternals, has wrapped up. Directed by Chloé Zhao and featuring an impressive ensemble cast including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Salma Hayek, the movie revolves around a group of immortal beings who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years. Filming took place in various locations, including the Canary Islands and Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. As the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Eternals is set to introduce a new group of superheroes with their own unique stories and abilities..
Seven months after the start of principal photography all the way back in July, Marvel’s The Eternals has now finally wrapped filming. The film was produced by Marvel Studios and will be distributed by Disney later this year.
Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, The Eternals will focus on the titular group of immensely powerful alien beings, who come together to stop a new threat from emerging from the shadows. It’s also been confirmed that the Deviants, who are the lifelong enemies of the Eternals, will be showing up, and there is also a possibility that the Celestials, the ancient race of god-like aliens who created the Eternals, will appear. This seems even more likely when you take into account the fact that the Celestials have already been featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Richard Madden will lead the cast as Ikaris, an all-powerful Eternal, with the supporting players including Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, and Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. Filmmaker Chloé Zhao, whose previous credits include Songs My Brothers Taught Me and The Rider, is directing, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing.
According to ComicBook.com, although filming has now wrapped, there is a possibility that there could be reshoots before the movie releases in November. But reshoots are now pretty much commonplace for films of this scale, so rest assured that they usually are not indicative of the overall quality of the picture.
Given the winning streak the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been experiencing as of late, we can expect The Eternals to surpass $1 billion at the box office when it opens in wide release on November 6, 2020. And although they currently aren’t as well known to the general public as other superheroes, the film will likely propel the Eternals to A-list status, so expect to see a lot of merchandise featuring these characters in the near future. Heck, we’re talking about a franchise which turned a tree and a talking racoon into two of the most bankable characters on the planet. The MCU really can make the impossible happen.
