Class 4A No. 6 Glenwood found the end zone four times in the first quarter to pull away from Thomas Jefferson quickly and earn a 42-6 win at Gale Wickersham Stadium on Friday night.
“I thought we had a great week of practice and they came out and played hard and executed well,” Rams coach Corey Faust said. “We can definitely continue to get better, but I thought we really took care of business tonight.
“They’ve got some good players over there. Their coaches do a really nice job, and are doing the right things and I think we did a good job taking control of the game right away.”
The Ram defense forced a three to start the night before the offense took the field and Trent Patton ran 36 yards on the Rams’ first play from scrimmage. Jack Johnson would get the ball back for the Ram offense after an interception. Kayden Anderson would later find Payton Longmeyer on a four-yard pass for a touchdown.

The Ram’s defense would get two more three-and-out stops and Kellen Scott found Jack Johnson on a four-yard pass to make it 21-0, and Tristan Meier ran in a score from seven yards out.
“Everybody played well and contributed to this,” Meier said. “We had no penalties, which is great, we came out and took control right away and I think it was a great game all-around for us.”
The Rams then enforced the 35-points mercy rule after Anderson connected a second time with Longmeyer for an eight-yard pass to make it 35-0 at the half.
“It was a great team effort tonight,” Anderson said. “We wanted to come in here and have a clean game and we didn’t have a single penalty, everyone just did their job and we just focused on getting the job done here as quickly as we could and I think we did that, and even got some of our younger guys in today.”
Anderson threw two touchdowns on the night.
Casey Godbout caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter to make it 42-0, but the Yellow Jackets put points on the board late in the fourth quarter, thanks to a four-yard run from Jayden Mulligan.
While the Yellow Jackets were hoping for some better results, the coaches still take some positives from this game and look forward to next week’s game against Winterset.
“Glenwood came in with a great game plan and really utilized their big offensive line,” Yellow Jackets coach Jerimiah Watters said. “They were smart with their misdirections and things of that nature. They’re just a well-coached and very talented team, and we knew this was going to be a challenge. We had a lot of youth playing tonight, we’re very injured on the o-line and d-line and it’s just tough. The kids kept fighting tough and I’m proud to see that.”
Glenwood will host Norwalk (5-3) and battle for a potential home playoff game. Thomas Jefferson will hit the road the face the Winterset Huskies next week. Both games will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
