What’s It About?
The Resident Evil reboot is an origin story that takes place on a night in Raccoon City, in the year 1998. Writer-director Johannes Roberts has said that the film will have ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games.
Speaking about the creative process behind the movie, Roberts said: “With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”
Franchise producer Robert Kulzer added: “After a dozen games, six live-action movies and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return to the year 1998, to explore the secrets hidden in the walls of the Spenser Mansion and Raccoon City.”
Who’s In It?
The movie has quite the cast attached, such as Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield and Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield. We also have Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker and Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy. Lastly, Neal McDonough will play William Birkin.
The previous six films, that were written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, which were led by Milla Jovovich and made a combined US$1.2 billion at the worldwide box office, are among the highest-grossing film series ever based on a video game.
