SAG-AFTRA, the major actors’ union in the US, has released a set of rules detailing what actors are restricted from doing during a strike. The guidelines prohibit actors from appearing in non-union productions, endorsing products, and participating in talk shows or reality TV during a strike. Actors must also refrain from performing in live events and promotional events, unless specifically approved by the union. While these guidelines aim to maintain solidarity among actors during strikes, they have received mixed reactions from industry experts, with some expressing concern over the potential impact on actors’ livelihoods..
SAG-AFTRA has announced a list of the rules that actors must follow while the union is on strike.
As you probably already guessed, actors are not allowed to film any new projects during the strike, but that was a given. There are some more complex rules that you might not have expected.
Tons of movies and television shows have already been filmed and studios will still release them in the coming months, but don’t expect to see any actors promoting them. SAG-AFTRA has limited the appearances that celebrities are allowed to make during the strike.
The strike will affect the union’s 160,000 members, but there are some actors out there who will still be working on projects at this time.
