“Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild” will air at 9:30 a.m. on WOWT in Omaha.
The educational series also will be available on NBC.com, NBC on demand and Peacock.
The debut comes 60 years after the original show made its broadcast TV debut.
The pioneering show became the gold standard for educational adventure programs. It underwent several iterations over the decades and made Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler household names.
The reboot aims to provide a fresh angle on environmental conservation, focusing on successful efforts and how wildlife experts are having a positive impact.

It features veteran co-host Peter Gros, who first appeared on “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” in 1985 as co-host with Fowler, who succeeded show founder Perkins.
Co-hosting the new series with Gros is wildlife ecologist Rae Wynn-Grant, a National Geographic Explorer and research faculty member at the University of California-Santa Barbara.
The series is produced by Hearst Media Production Group in partnership with Mutual of Omaha.
A Mutual of Omaha spokeswoman provided some details on what’s in store for viewers.
The first episode of the reboot will focus on desert tortoises.
“Peter and Rae travel to the Mojave Desert, the driest region of North America, to help conservationists save the Mojave Desert Tortoise. With special access to Edwards Air Force Base, they explore a groundbreaking program that head-starts baby tortoises and ensures the survival of the entire species.”
In the second episode, the co-hosts travel to the coastline of Maine to explore the world of puffins and witness a conservation program that’s fighting to save them.
“Along the way, they’ll follow in the footsteps of the great Marlin Perkins, who first featured puffins on Wild Kingdom back in 1979.”
In the third episode, Gros ventures to Florida with guest host and naturalist David Mizejewski, where they meet the experts who are battling to protect endangered sea turtles and at-risk manatees.
Gros and Wynn-Grant visit “the bat capital of the world” in Episode 4. They witness the nightly mass emergence of twenty million Mexican Freetail bats.
“Peter joins bat rescue experts who are helping to get these little creatures back on their wings. Rae heads deep underground to help vaccinate bats against a disease that is wreaking havoc on the species.”
The co-hosts help release rehabilitated bats back to their own kind on Congress Bridge in Austin, Texas.
