Everyone knows that when March hits, movie season moves into full swing. There are some heavy-hitters out this month, and a crazy variety of movies. We’ve got a comic book movie, as well as genres like action, sports, true crime drama and even horror. Quite a number of the movies on this list is on many anticipated movies list of 2023, so we know we’re in for quite a treat this March. Here are the biggest new movies of March 2023.
New Movies of March 2023
1. Creed III | March 3rd, 2023
2023 is a big year for Jonathan Majors. He’s the antagonist in the latest Ant-Man movie, and he faces off with Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed in Creed III. Jordan is making his directorial debut with this movie, and he took advice from actors like Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper, who have experience directing themselves on screen.
Adonis Creed is thriving in his career and family life, and dominates the world of boxing. Things take a turn when Damian (Majors), a childhood friend, comes back into his life after serving time in prison. Damian believes he deserves a shot in the ring, and now Adonis must fight a man who has nothing to lose.
The early reviews for Creed III have been fantastic, with most critics praising both Jordan’s acting and his skill behind the camera as well. Let’s hope it keeps that momentum well past opening day.
2. Scream VI | March 10th, 2023
In 2022, we got a requel with Scream (2022), with new final girls Sam (Melissa Barerra) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), and Sidney taking a step back as main character after being the centre of things for four movies. For this next entry in the Scream franchise, Barerra and Ortega are returning, and so are Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding. Unfortunately, Neve Campbell will not come back Sidney Prescott, due to salary dispute issues. Scream VI is the first movie to not have Sidney, which is certainly a bummer since Campbell has done such a stellar job with the character over the years.
However, Courteney Cox will be back, and surprisingly, so will Hayden Panettiere, who played Kirby in Scream 4. Things will pick up from where the previous movie left off, only this time we’re not in Woodsboro anymore. The gang head off to New York for a fresh start, but they can’t escape Ghostface, who begins a killing rampage through the big city.
3. Shazam! Fury of the Gods | March 17th, 2023
Initially a 2022 release, Shazam! Fury of the Gods was moved to 2023 to avoid direct competition with Avatar: The Way of Water. Will the shift be to its benefit? Guess we’ll find out come opening weekend.
In this sequel, Shazam and company will be taking on the Daughters of Atlas, Hespera and Kalypso, played by Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu. From the trailer, it appears that the Daughters of Atlas believe that Billy and the rest stole the powers of the Gods, and wants them to give it back. Somehow there are also creatures being conjured wanting to tear the world apart? We’ll see how it all comes together when the movie makes its debut in 2023.
4. Boston Strangler | March 17th, 2023
Out of all the movies on this list, this choice is a little under the radar. It’s also premiering on Hulu and not getting a cinema release like the rest of this list. The movie’s based on the infamous serial killer who slaughtered countless women in the Boston area during the 1960s.
The film follows Keira Knightley’s character Loretta McLaughlin, the first journalist to piece together the clues that showed a connection between the killings. Loretta worked with Jean Cole (Carrie Coon)to further her investigations while having to deal with the misogyny and sexism that was part of that period.
Boston Strangler also stars Alessandro Nivola, David Dastmalchian, Morgan Spector, Bill Camp and Chris Cooper.
5. John Wick: Chapter 4 | March 24th, 2023
What started out as a simple revenge movie has evolved into a franchise that’s so well-executed. From the trailer alone John Wick: Chapter 4 promises all of the fun things the previous movies had – location hopping and stellar fight choreography. With every film, the cast list gets more and more impressive. For this fourth film, we have a whole host of new cast members: Bill Skarsgard, Donnie Yen, and Clancy Brown.
Skarsgard will play The Marquis, one of the antagonists John Wick finds himself up against. He’ll likely be a direct threat to John Wick and The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) as they plot to take on the High Table.
