On December 5th, Golden State Warriors’ star Steph Curry showcased his hidden talent as he took the stage at San Francisco’s Chase Center for a performance with rock band Paramore. The basketball icon surprised fans, joining lead singer Hayley Williams for a special rendition of their hit song “Ain’t It Fun.” Curry, known for his exceptional shooting skills on the court, traded his basketball for a microphone, belting out the lyrics alongside Williams. The unexpected collaboration thrilled the audience and demonstrated Curry’s versatility beyond basketball, leaving fans in awe of his hidden musical talents..
Paramore fans who made it to the band’s Monday make up show at San Francisco’s Chase Center got to witness a surprise performance from an unlikely singer: Stephen Curry.
The four-time NBA champion took a mic and joined lead singer Hayley Williams to perform the electropop outfit’s hit “Misery Business,” a single off the 2007 album “Riot!”
“So look, you know us and Steph, we go back a few years,” Williams told the cheering crowd after the Golden State Warrior point guard joined her on stage at around 10:15 p.m., “and tonight is our reunion. Tonight we’re going to sing something together.
“And listen, from the moment Steph takes the mic, this is no longer a Paramore show, this is a Steph Curry show.”
The crowd lit up and Curry joined Williams in belting out the song, walking up to the edge of the stage, leaning in toward the fans — as if he’d done it a million times before.
Curry’s onstage performance comes less than a week after the basketball star made his musical debut on Houston rapper Tobe Nwigwe’s track, “Lil Fish, Big Pond.” The song’s music video was released Aug. 2, showing Curry in fishing gear with white Salehe Bembury Crocs dropping verses that pay tribute to his father, Dell Curry. (Warriors fans may want to keep an eye out for another Curry surprise appearance this weekend as Nwigwe is scheduled to perform on the last day of this year’s Outside Lands music festival.)
The performance made up for the last-minute cancellation of Paramore’s concert on July 22, when the band announced just two hours before the scheduled show at the home of the Warriors that they could not play “due to sickness within the touring party.” On Monday, Williams told the crowd she was still sick, coughing occasionally. Fortunately, then, she had some help on vocals from Curry.
In her banter between songs, Williams acknowledged that during the pandemic, the ranks of Paramore fans had swollen as new listeners discovered their music through TikTok. “It’s never too late to join this party, bitch,” she told the crowd.
