The upcoming film adaptation of The Banana Splits seems to be taking a dark and twisted turn. Based on the beloved 1960s children’s show, the movie is labeled as a horror-thriller and appears to feature a high body count. Set at a live taping of the show, things quickly go awry as the animatronic characters begin brutally murdering the audience. The film promises a mix of nostalgia for fans of the original show, while also delivering a gory and suspenseful experience for horror enthusiasts. Expectations are high for this unique and unexpected take on a classic franchise..
The Banana Splits are back and gorier than ever. There’s something about childhood franchises: while some can stand the test of time, others find it difficult or even impossible. Banana Splits may have gone off the deep end and went a bit further than most.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Syfy have announced their collaboration to bring to life a Banana Splits film produced by Blue Ribbon Content. What could be the problem with that? There’s no problem per se, but there’s a change in direction that may come as a surprise.
Instead of the characters we all know and have some form of opinion on, singing their “smash hit” Tra La La and being all creepily innocent, they’ll probably be singing it while they mow people down. That’s right, this abnormal Syfy-Warner Bros. production is bringing those characters to the big screen as killers. To be fair, we all probably had our suspicions Fleegle and the gang were doing something wrong.

The synopsis reads as follows:
“In the upcoming horror thriller, a boy named Harley and his family (brother Austin, mother Beth, and father Mitch) attend a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley and business as usual for Rebecca, the producer of the series. But things take an unexpected turn — and the body count quickly rises. Can Harley, his mom and their new pals safely escape?”
The Banana Splits was a cartoon group created by Hanna-Barbera in the 90s. Their namesake show, The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, ran for a collective three years until it ultimately ceased production. The series followed a group of anthropomorphized characters.
There’s been no word on a release date, but it will air on Syfy.
