Netflix just released the official trailer for The Devil All The Time, which is an adaptation of Donald Ray Pollack’s novel of the same name, set in Knockemstiff, Ohio, in the time between World War II and the Vietnam war.
The film has a star-studded cast, and besides Tom Holland, there’s Robert Pattinson, who plays an unholy preacher, Sebastian Stan is a crooked sheriff, a twisted couple portrayed by Jason Clarke and Riley Keough, and a supporting cast consisting of Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska, Harry Melling, Haley Bennett, and Pokey LaFarge. The movie involves a face-off between the just and the corrupt, though it doesn’t seem a fair fight as the latter seems to overwhelm any sense of good there is to be found.
This is actually one of the few Netflix trailers that doesn’t give the game away. We are given little snippets of the key players, and most notably, Holland and Pattinson speaking Appalachian English – it sounds Southern but there is a distinct difference. From the trailer, the Appalachian English sounds credible, though we would need to see the film to have a better gauge of this. At least, it seems that this is a better attempt than Pattinson’s efforts at a French accent in The King.
You can catch The Devil All The Time on Netflix come September 16, 2020.
