Aniplex of America and Crunchyroll have announced plans to bring Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village-, currently a megahit in Japan, to cinemas in the UK and Ireland from March 1st, 2023.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- is “part of a cinematic event” called Demon Slayer: World Tour with special screenings set to take place all across the world. The showcase includes the final two episodes (Episode 10 and 11) of the absolutely gripping Entertainment District Arc that closed off Season 2, as well as an extended version of the first episode of Season 3, which will cover the Swordsmith Village arc. All three episodes will be combined into one movie remastered for 4K and is sure to be quite the spectacle, judging from just how crazy Season 2’s final scenes were.
The Swordsmith Village arc is set to be just as intense as the Entertainment District arc before it, with Tanjiro making his way to a secluded village to get another berating from Hotaru Haganezuka for breaking yet another sword. But it isn’t long before the demons start closing in and Tanjiro has to team up with the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito.
The television premiere of Season 3 will happen sometime in April 2023, meaning that a cinema ticket is the only way of getting in on Season 3 early. Tickets can be purchased here for those in the UK from February 17th, 2023, while the special movie will air much earlier in the US in Los Angeles from February 18th, 2023.
Demon Slayer’s success shows no signs of slowing down, as this special movie has dominated cinemas in Japan and earned a staggering 1.15 billion yen in Japan during its three days at the box office, with just under a million tickets sold. Considering that many Demon Slayer fans would have already seen most of the action, it speaks to the anime’s massive popularity that fans would still pay to watch it.
