This Month, Catch the Premiere of the Highly-Anticipated Tony Hawk Pro Skater Documentary “Pretending I’m A Superman” –

If you’re a fan of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series of video games, you may be interested to know that the documentary Pretending I’m a Superman will be having its world premiere at the Mammoth Film Festival in Mammoth Lakes, California, on February 29th at 4 pm. Tony Hawk himself will be attending the premiere and holding a Q&A session afterwards, so fans will not want to miss this. If you are able to attend, you can purchase your tickets here.

We first covered Pretending I’m a Superman when it was raising funds on Indiegogo back in 2017. The campaign proved to be a success, and fast forward a few years later, the documentary has now finally completed production. Directed by Ludvig Gür, the film features interviews with Hawk as well as fellow skateboarders Rodney Mullen, Chad Muska, and Steve Caballero, with several developers from Neversoft also being interviewed. Former Neversoft employee Ralph D’Amato also serves as producer.

As well as focusing on the history of the Pro Skater series, Pretending I’m a Superman will also explore the popularity of skateboarding in and of itself, and how it has evolved over the years. Needless to say, those who have an appreciation for the art of skateboarding will certainly be looking forward to seeing this. Pretending I’m a Superman takes its name from a lyric from the song Superman by the band Goldfinger, which can be heard in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game from back in 1999. Since then, the franchise has gone on to sell a combined total of over 30 million copies, and while Activision no longer seems to have any interest in continuing the franchise after the poor reception of Pro Skater 5, gamers of a certain age will always have fond memories of firing up their PlayStations and trying to unlock a new high score by performing death-defying stunts on their skateboards. It’s actually a little sad to think that Goldfinger’s Superman song was about balancing the responsibilities of adulthood with the recklessness of youth, because sadly, as soon as you reach a certain age, you actually have to accept responsibilities instead of playing video games all day.

Either way, after its world premiere this month, Pretending I’m a Superman will probably be screened at several more festivals before making its way to VOD and possibly to home video. So fans who can’t attend the premiere still probably won’t have too long to wait before they can finally experience this long-awaited documentary for themselves.
