In February 2023, movie enthusiasts can anticipate the release of five highly anticipated films. The first is a superhero flick, “The Guardian’s Return”, which sees the iconic heroes back in action to protect the world once again. Next up is “Timeless Love”, a heartwarming romantic drama that follows the extraordinary journey of a young couple through time. “The Haunting of Hollow Manor” offers thrills and chills as a group of friends investigates a haunted mansion. Action junkies will delight in “Bulletproof Force”, where a highly skilled team takes on dangerous criminals. Lastly, “The Secret Expedition” explores the uncharted territories of a mysterious island, leading to unexpected discoveries..
January may be a dead zone for movies (not for horror movies apparently considering M3GAN and Infinity Pool), but February feels infinitely better. There’s some highly anticipated movies on the horizon, and weirdly enough, they aren’t romance movies despite the month. February now seems to be the go-to month when it comes to all things bear-related. Not sure what I mean? Check out the 5 biggest new movies of February 2023.
New Movies of February 2023
1. Knock at the Cabin | February 3rd, 2023
M. Night Shyamalan has directed some fantastic movies in his lifetime, but he’s also had some duds. His last film Old had the critics divided, with a 50% Rotten Tomatoes score. However, the early reactions seem to indicate good news for Knock at the Cabin, with many lauding this movie as the best we’ve seen from Shyamalan in years.
The movie is based on the novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. In the story, a family of three get taken hostage by a bunch of strangers during their vacation, and instead of a ransom, the kidnappers demand a sacrifice. The movie stars Dave Bautista, Ben Aldridge, Jonathan Groff, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Abby Quinn.
2. Magic Mike’s Last Dance | February 10th, 2023
It’s been 8 years since Magic Mike XXL dazzled us on the big screen. Yet, demand for these Magic Mike movies are still very much there, and I’m sure audiences will be trooping in to see Channing Tatum work that stage once more.
Things don’t start out great for Mike in this third film. After a bad business deal left him broke, he takes on bartender gigs to get by. When he meets a wealthy socialite, played by Salma Hayek, she provides him with the opportunity to return to the stage for what he believes will be his last hurrah. But things aren’t what they seem, and she has a hidden agenda of her own.
Steven Soderbergh will be back in the director’s chair for this one, so hopefully this entry will be able to recapture the magic of the first movie.
3. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey | February 15th, 2023
Did you ever think you’d hear Winnie the Pooh and slasher in the same sentence? Well, that’s apparently what we’re getting.
Pooh and Piglet will be murdering people for their next meal, and now suddenly, my entire childhood’s ruined. According to director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, Tigger will be left out of this murdering rampage, due to the character’s associations with Disney, as well as the fact that Tigger isn’t in the public domain like the other characters. The filmmaker’s main inspiration source is the book, and he used it to make Pooh and Piglet as distinctive as possible.
The movie follows Winnie the Pooh, who loses interest in honey and develops a craving for human flesh. After Christopher Robin leaves them for college, Pooh and Piglet are left to fend for themselves, which involves killing people for their next meal. This film is definitely not child-friendly so if you see any young families in your cinema, do advise them to go see another movie instead.
4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania | February 17th, 2023
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the first film to start off MCU’s Phase 5. This movie does look promising, especially since we have Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man up against Jonathan Majors’ Kang, and that’s a dynamic I’m eager to see play out.
Based on the trailer, a device built by Cassie – with good intentions – ends up trapping everyone in the Quantum Realm. The gang find themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that pushes them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.
5. Cocaine Bear | February 24th, 2023
Before you think the movie’s title is some clever metaphor, it’s not. What you see is what you get, basically a movie where a bear gets high on cocaine and goes on a murderous rampage. Yup, we’re getting two movies about murderous bears in a single month, aren’t we lucky?
There was a real life incident in the 1980s where a bear did die after getting high off a batch of cocaine, but it didn’t murder anyone, so the movie is fictional for the most part.
Just based on the trailer alone, the movie looks insane and highly entertaining. Director Elizabeth Banks may have a hit on her hands, we’ll just have to see.
