March 2022 is set to be an exciting month for movie lovers with several highly anticipated releases. Topping the list is “The Batman,” where Robert Pattinson takes on the iconic role of Batman, exploring a darker and grittier adaptation of the character. The film promises intense action and a fresh take on the superhero genre. Other notable releases include “Breaks Dawn,” a thriller set in a remote cabin where a group of friends must confront their darkest secrets, creating a tense and suspenseful atmosphere. Overall, March 2022 promises to offer an array of thrilling and captivating cinematic experiences..
While February had some big cinematic offerings, most of the biggest new movies of March are premiering on streaming platforms, which is surprising information. However, I’m less surprised that quite a few of these movies are going to be released on Hulu. Hulu’s been quietly killing it in the streaming game. They managed to snag Palm Springs, as well as Aneesh Chaganty’s anticipated sophomore release Run, not to mention the star-studded Happiest Season, all in 2020.
Don’t despair, there’ll still be movies to check out in the cinemas – I think you don’t even need me to tell you the biggest movie that’s out this month, you already know. February may have been a little too focused on love, so March’s coming in to strike a little more balance: there’s truly something for everyone.
Here are the biggest new movies of March 2022.
New Movies of March 2022
1. The Batman | March 4th, 2022
I think most of us have been looking forward to this film for so long that we don’t even need a reminder – it’s probably branded into whatever calendars we’ve been using in 2022. This is Robert Pattinson’s first outing as the caped crusader, and everyone’s waiting with bated breath to see how he performs in the role. Matt Reeves’ The Batman ventures into Gotham City’s underworld, where Batman finds himself taking on a sadistic killer who leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues.
Currently, embargo’s still up on the film, so we don’t even know what the critics think. I desperately want it to be good, especially since the last good Batman movies were by Christopher Nolan – sorry Batfleck. We won’t have long to find out.
2. Fresh | March 4th, 2022
Fresh, which currently stands at a rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, is about the horrors of modern dating. It stars Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones. According to the critics who got to see the film at Sundance this year, this is all you should know going into the film. To reveal any more would spoil it for the viewer. So yeah, that’s all I’m going to give you. Check it out when it makes its premiere on Hulu.
3. Turning Red | March 11th, 2022
Disney’s announcement that Turning Red would debut on Disney Plus at no extra cost had staff at Pixar turning red. This animated film is the third one that Disney’s sent straight to streaming instead of giving it a theatrical release – the other two movies were Soul and Luca. While coincidental, Disney’s probably not doing this on purpose. Considering we’re still in a pandemic, they need to make sure that they keep Disney Plus rife with new, quality content to keep subscribers happy, and no one does quality better than Pixar.
Turning Red follows Mei Lee (Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between playing the part of the dutiful daughter or embracing the volatility of adolescence. Her mother Ming (Sandra Oh) is highly protective and never far from her daughter. As if things aren’t chaotic enough, whenever Mei Lee gets too excited, she transforms into a giant red panda.
Turning Red’s been on my watch list ever since I saw the trailer – which is hilarious – so I can’t wait to check it out with my family in tow.
4. Deep Water | March 11th, 2022
Deep Water’s been generating quite a bit of buzz online for two reasons. One, it’s director Adrian Lyne’s first film in like 20 years – his last film was 2002’s Unfaithful, with Diane Lane and Richard Gere. The second reason is because of leads Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck. The pair started dating after filming this movie together, but broke up soon after. So you can imagine why everyone’s kind of interested in seeing the film.
Initially slated to have a theatrical release early this year, this changed in early December when it was pulled from the schedule. According to Deadline, this is because adult fare isn’t exactly doing well in the theatres right now. Hulu snapped the film up, so you’ll get to enjoy this psychological erotic thriller in the comfort of your home.
Affleck and de Armas star as Vic and Melinda Van Allen, a married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple try to keep their loveless marriage going by allowing each other to take lovers, but this arrangement inevitably turns messy.
5. The Lost City | March 25th, 2022
It’s 2022, and rom-coms are making a comeback. We had Marry Me in February, and this month we’re getting The Lost City, an adventure rom-com starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe. Bullock’s back in her comedic wheelhouse, and I’m so looking forward to it.
Bullock plays the brilliant, but reclusive author Loretta Sage, who has spent her career writing about exotic places in her popular romance-adventure novels featuring handsome cover model Alan (Channing Tatum). While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) who hopes that she can lead him to the ancient lost city’s treasure from her latest story.
Wanting to prove that he can be a hero in real life and not just a cover model, Alan sets off to rescue her. The unlikely pair will need to work together to survive the elements and find the ancient treasure before it’s lost forever. The Lost City looks like immense fun, and harkens back to a time where we watched movies to have a good ole time, and not to analyse possible Easter eggs.
