All Cedar Rapids Schools Campus Buildings will be closed on Monday. In an email to families announcing the closure on Sunday night, the district said it decided to close campuses out of an abundance of caution and “for the safety of all students and staff.”
According to the district, the social media posts were made over the weekend “by an unidentified person or persons affecting CRCSD property.” The district said it has spent the past 24 hours working with Cedar Rapids Police, state public safety agencies and the FBI to investigate and identify the source of the threat.
On Sunday evening, the district said that the investigation into the nature of the threats and the source had become complex, and authorities are examining every lead they have closely. So far, investigators have not identified a suspect or made an arrest.
“We understand that the news of school closure due to a threat made on social media by an unidentified person may concern you. We assure you the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community is paramount to us,” the district wrote in an email to families. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we want to thank you for your patience and understanding.”
