It’s been a very busy week for Sony and their upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. They have had released two teaser posters, then an article from The Hollywood Reporter about the film’s premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in about two months time, and now we have our first trailer, and it is nothing short of glorious.

Tarantino’s last few films have shown more of a decadent side as far as costume and production design goes, and that trope is carrying through for this late 60s set film. We mainly focus on the leading trio of the cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie, and just from these first few glimpses, we might just see some Oscar campaigns starting early, especially for DiCaprio and Robbie.

The highlight of the trailer for me, though, is the conversation between Bruce Lee (played here by Mike Moh) and Pitt’s character, Cliff Booth. The line, “Anybody accidentally kills anybody in a fight, they go to jail. It’s called manslaughter” just fits perfectly into this world Tarantino has created.

The story revolves around both Cliff and star Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) trying to find a new acting gig after the pair’s longtime western goes off the air. Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate, and yes, we did get a glimpse (albeit a very short one) of Charles Manson (played by Damon Herriman) in the trailer as well, so we know that storyline is going to play into things.

The film also stars Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Bruce Dern, Scoot McNairy, Luke Perry, and Kurt Russell. Sony is opening the film in wide release on July 26th. Unless you get to see the film early at Cannes, it’s going to be a long four month wait to see it.
