Universal Teams Up with M. Night Shyamalan to Present Two New Thrillers in 2021 and 2023 – Hot

According to Deadline, M. Night Shyamalan will continue his working relationship with Universal Pictures, planning the release of two thrillers (currently untitled) set for February 26, 2021 and February 17, 2023. This news isn’t surprising considering the success his last three films with Universal Pictures – namely The Visit, Split and Glass – which generated a total of 625 million USD with a production budget of 35 million USD. I may not be good at Math, but that is substantial profits right there.

Universal Pictures President Peter Cramer stated that their choice of Shyamalan is due to the fact that he “is a master filmmaker working at the height of his powers”. Shyamalan was equally effusive with his praise, mentioning that his decision to continue with Universal is because “they are the best at finding an audience for new stories with unexpected tones.”

He commented on Universal’s penchant for “original films”, and how this is crucial for the “longevity of the theatrical experience”. It’s a match made in heaven, where Shyamalan gets to pursue his unique form of storytelling, and with a film studio like Universal backing him and looking closely at the final product, at least we won’t have another The Last Airbender situation on our hands.

Currently, Shyamalan is waiting the release of TV series Servant, which he is the executive producer on. Servant is about a couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage, which opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home. The series will premiere on Apple’s upcoming streaming service AppleTV+, though there are no details on the release dates as yet.
