In a recent interview, Victoria Beckham opens up about her emotional state after the cheating scandal involving her husband David Beckham. She reveals that she was “the most unhappy” she had ever been during that time. The fashion designer admits to feeling vulnerable and going through a difficult period in her life. However, she also explains how she managed to work through it and focus on her family, stating that they are her priority. Despite the challenging times, Victoria asserts that her marriage is strong and that they have learned to navigate the ups and downs together..
Victoria Beckham has traded the notorious British stiff upper lip for some emotional disclosure, admitting in the upcoming four-part docuseries, Beckham, that she “resented” husband David Beckham after his alleged infidelity.
According to the Sun, Victoria breaks her silence in the upcoming Netflix docuseries with an emotional conversation about her husband’s alleged affairs in 2003, when Victoria and the couple’s children were living in the UK while David was in Spain with his soccer team, Real Madrid.
Two women, Rebecca Loos and Sarah Marbeck came forward that year and said that they’d had affairs with David. Victoria does not reference them by name in the doc, though headlines from the period are flashed onscreen, but called the period “the most unhappy I’ve ever been.”
Asked if she’d resented her husband at the time, she said, “If I’m being honest, yes. I did.”
David said that he didn’t “know how we got through it, in all honesty.”
“Victoria is everything to me,” he said. “To see her hurt was incredibly difficult, but we’re fighters. We needed to fight for each other and for our family. What we had was worth fighting for.”
“But ultimately it’s our private life. There were some days I thought, ‘How am I going to go to work? How am I going to go on that training pitch and look as if nothing is wrong?’ I felt physically sick every day when I opened my eyes. How am I going to do this?”
The couple is no stranger to the spotlight, with David being arguably the most famous soccer player ever, and Victoria being both a former member of the Spice Girls and a fashion designer in her own right. They married in 1999, and the 2003 geographic separation and the tabloid coverage that followed the accusations were the first public test of their marriage.
Victoria, who moved with the couple’s children to Spain to join David after the scandal, said that the time was “a nightmare.”
“It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us,” she recalled.
“Here’s the thing — we were against each other if I’m being completely honest.”
The coverage of her personal life deeply impacted her, she said.
“It was an absolute circus — and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town right? Unless you’re in it.”
Both David and Victoria are visibly emotional in the series, according to coverage from the premiere Tuesday night.
Victoria, in the doc, recalls another time when the couple’s high public profile caused friction in their personal lives. She spoke about being in labor with third son Cruz in 2005, and David being away at a photoshoot.
“I was like, ‘Seriously, I’m about to burst, I’m on bed rest. Are you kidding me?! You’ve got a damn photoshoot with Jennifer Lopez who is gorgeous and not about to have a baby,” she said.
“So I had my C-section and I remember lying there, I don’t feel at my most gorgeous, let’s just say, and I remember someone showing me the front page of the newspaper which was a gorgeous picture of David between Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé and the headline was ‘What would Posh say?’
“Let me tell you what Posh would say: Posh was pissed off!”
