Discovering the Enchanting Journey of BIG FLOPPA, the Most Lovable Caracal
Unraveling the Mystery: Identifying Big Floppa’s Cat Breed – Insights from PoC
Meet ‘Big Floppa’ or simply ‘Floppa,’ a domesticated caracal—a captivating medium-sized wild cat known for its remarkable jumping ability, surpassing that of any other feline, in my estimation.
For centuries, caracals have been utilized in hunting expeditions alongside humans, particularly in Asia. The popular phrase ‘cat among the pigeons’ originates from caracals chasing pigeons during these hunting ventures of years past.
In the realm of cat enthusiasts, caracals are recognized for their ‘lynx-tipped’ ears, drawing inspiration from another wild cat species called the lynx. In reality, it is believed that these tufts of hair serve as a means of communication among caracals or potentially enhance their hearing capabilities by enlarging the ear flaps (pinnae).
Caracal lynx
With short, reddish-brown fur adorning their back and flanks, the caracals exhibit a striking contrast against the white fur on their chin, throat, and belly. Notably, their long and slender ears are adorned with distinctive tufts of black fur.
Measuring between 33-48 inches (83-123 centimeters) in length, from head to tail, the caracal is considered the heaviest among small African cats, weighing between 25-40 pounds (9.5-18 kilograms). Generally, males tend to be larger in size compared to females.
Caracals inhabit woodlands, savannahs, and scrub forests, while typically avoiding sandy deserts. In southern Africa, they are commonly found in upland areas.
Are Caracals Suitable as Pets? The Challenging Nature of Taming these Fierce Felines
While caracals can display affection and friendliness, they also possess a propensity for sporadic destructive behavior, reminiscent of mischievous kittens. In captivity, they have the potential to live up to 17 years, surpassing their typical lifespan in the wild by 5 years.
Caracals, native to Africa and Southwest Asia, are captivating medium-sized wild cats celebrated for their distinctive facial markings, reddish-tan coats, long legs, and large tufted ears. Due to their strong opportunistic hunting instincts, the presence of caracals poses a potential safety risk to other pets and small children. Join us as we delve deeper into the intriguing world of exotic caracals and explore the potential dangers associated with them.

The Bobcat (Lynx rufus) is a North American mammal of the cat family Felidae, appearing during the Irvingtonian stage of around 1.8 million years ago (AEO). With twelve recognized subspecies, it ranges from southern Canada to northern Mexico, including most of the continental United States

An adult stands about 30 to 60 cm (12 to 24 in) at the shoulders
The largest bobcat accurately measured on record weighed 22.2 kg (49 lb), although there are unverified reports of them reaching 27 kg (60 lb). The bobcat is able to go for long periods without food, but will eat heavily when prey is abundant
